Establishment of global European battery center with the Group's first own cell factory

On 7 July, Volkswagen Group and Volkswagen Group Technology are starting “Mission SalzGiga” – construction of the global battery center with Volkswagen Group’s own first cell factory at Salzgitter. This opens a new chapter in economic history in Germany and Europe: industrialization of the battery technology covering the entire supply chain.
Furthermore, Volkswagen for the first time presents details of its new battery company, bundling all battery activities throughout the value chain and managing the European gigafactories. Special guest is federal chancellor Olaf Scholz.
